The Digital Divide - Extent | |||
In most western industrialised countries there is little poverty, and people
who do not have computers and access to the Internet do so by choice.
Some people are wealthy enough and educated enough to use the Internet but
choose not to do so.
Internet access is available everywhere in the UK and nearly all large businesses now advertise and sell on their own web sites. Schools and libraries all have Internet access.

There is a different situation in other less well-developed
countries where the communications infrastructure
is poor, and people may be unable to access the Internet even if they
wanted to.
The digital divide will decrease as these countries improve their communications and extend the use the Internet. Businesses in these countries will find that when they start to use the digital technology it will attract more customers from overseas and improve their profitability. The wealth generated by the digital technology will enable more people to become connected - which will generate more wealth etc...
