Marketing
Marketing is the processing and communication of information designed to encourage people to buy or use a product or service.

The Internet can be used to advertise goods or services on web sites.

Nearly all businesses now have web sites and most of them describe their products and explain how customers can buy them. Most web sites will also give email addresses or display web forms for people to contact them.

Advertisements on TV, newspapers or even on the sides of commercial vehicles often now include the URL of the company's web site.

Subscribers can choose to receive regular newsletters by email from companies giving information about new products.

Spam is advertising email that has not been requested and is unwanted. Spam has become a major problem, clogging up the email systems.

Some advertising on web sites uses banners - small graphic images that are used for brand awareness or link to company web sites...such as this one... Many banners use animated gifs to attract the viewer's attention.

Some advertising is intrusive. Pop-up windows may open on top of the page being viewed. These can be annoying as they have to be closed. Some free software can be downloaded that blocks pop-up windows.

Some companies use 'cold calling' to advertise their products. This involves telephoning random people and trying to sell to them.
