Distribution of Goods
When a customer buys goods from a company, the order is sent to a warehouse or a depot where the goods are loaded onto a van.

It is important that the goods get delivered to the right address as quickly as possible, and ICT methods are used to track them.

Some goods are labelled with barcodes which are read at each stage of their journey. The information is sent to a central computer so it is possible to see which stage of the journey the goods have reached.

More recently, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags are attached to goods. These send out radio signals of the object's identification to wireless receivers so the exact location can be sent to a central computer controlling the distribution system.
