Search Engines
There are powerful search engines to help you find information you are looking for on the Internet.

Examples:

  • Google
  • Ask
  • Yahoo
  • MSN
  • Lycos
  • Altavista
  • ...and many, many more...
The user inputs keywords for what he is searching for. The search engine returns a list of links to web sites that may be useful. Generally the more a website is used, the higher up the list it will appear.

It is important to carefully select your keywords, and be specific about what you want - otherwise you end up with a list of too many links.

Hints for Google and other search engines...

Use + for pages that must have that keyword
Eg:  +Gunpowder +Plot

Use quotation marks for exact phrases.
Eg: "Gunpowder Plot"

Use - to exclude pages
Eg: You may want to find information about Rugby - but not Rugby League and not the school..
+Rugby -League -School
