Batch processing - A
number of similar jobs are collected and then run together. There is no
urgency and the jobs can be processed at off-peak times such as the night
or weekend.
Examples : Processing electricity bills.

Real-time processing -
Data is processed as soon as it is received by the computer. There is immediate
response to any critical data.
Example : Intensive care patient monitoring system.

Real-time transaction processing
- Transactions are processed immediately and any files of data are
updated. This means the information in the computer system is always
up-to-date.
Example : Theatre booking system - No double booking of seats is possible. |
