Embedded System
An embedded system consists of a microprocessor chip built into a piece of equipment and is designed to perform a dedicated operation.

The device will have a program stored in ROM that operates the equipment.

Examples of embedded systems:
  • a digital watch
  • a microwave
  • a washing machine
  • video recorder
  • digital camera
  • commercial photocopier
In some cases, embedded systems are part of larger systems.
Eg. an antilock braking system in a car.
