 Computers are continuing to ..
    - have faster processors.

    - have greater storage capacities (memory and backing store)

    - become cheaper

You need to be aware and be able to discuss the following
effects of computers ..
Social
    - Less social contact.

    - More leisure time - large increase in the use of
        computer games (time wasting; no social contact; addictive; some are educational).

    - Easier to keep in touch with people -
       email, messaging

    - Privacy considerations - how secure is personal
        data?

Work patterns
    - Internet and WANs have allowed
       teleworking -
        working from home

    - Advantages - flexible hours; more relaxed
        atmosphere; no commuting;

    - Disadvantages - lack of social contact; possible
        disruptions/distractions;

    - Advantage to company - no need to provide office
        space; heating; refreshments etc

Cashless society
    - workers are automatically paid by EFT(Electronic
	Funds Transfer) into their bank accounts

    - credit and debit cards are used more for payments

    - advantage - no need to carry cash

    - disadvantage - possibility of fraud or lost/stolen card

Employment
    - practical skilled jobs on the decline

    - possible redundancies if more efficient IT-based system replaces
        workers.

    - new jobs created - IT related (programmers, systems analysts;
        robot maintenance etc)

    - workers need to be re-trained.

Crime
    - increase in computer-related crime

    - credit card fraud

    - hacking - unauthorised access to companies/banks etc and
        possible manipulation of data.

    - viruses

Health and Safety
    - Attention needs to be paid to posture problems
        from sitting for long periods at a computer

    - Radiation hazards from monitors and eye
        strain

    - RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury)

    - lack of exercise leading to obesity/lack of
      fitness
