Health and Safety
There are several Health and Safety issues that need to be addressed for people who work with computers :

Back or neck strain can result from using a badly positioned chair while working for long periods at a computer.
  • Chairs should be adjustable and set at the right height (arms should be horizontal when typing at a keyboard, and you should look straight across to the top of the monitor)
  • Short breaks should be taken regularly.

Eye strain may be caused by poor lighting or poor quality monitors, if you sit for long hours at a computer.
  • Monitor screen should be an arm's distance away from your eyes.
  • LED monitors are better than the old CRT monitors.

RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) is caused by constant use of the joints in fingers, hands or wrists leading to long-term pain and stiffness in the tendons.
  • Take frequent breaks from typing and using the mouse.
  • Frequent wrist and hand exercises should be taken.
  • Use a relaxed grip of the mouse.
Fitness problems may arise due to lack of exercise when sitting for long periods at the computer, possibly leading to obesity.
  • Take plenty of exercise at home to compensate for long periods of inactivity.
