...but how do you find out where it came from?

 

  Here is an example of a phishing email that looks like it came from the HSBC bank...

 

 
 

 
The Message Options should allow you to view the Internet headers of the message...You should see something like this...

Find the line that starts X-Originating-IP:

and make a note of the IP address (189.26.153.38)

 

  Now use your Internet browser to go to the web site http://tools.whois.net/whoisbyip/

...and enter the IP address in the search box.

The results of the search should reveal where the email originated...
