The unit will give learners an understanding of the role and responsibilities of building surveyors, including their interactions with other professionals. They will be able to apply their understanding to carry out building surveys, and produce well-structured survey reports and associated schedules for low-rise domestic and commercial buildings.

This unit provides an understanding of mechanical and electrical building services, specifically for learners following a construction pathway. They will explore the provision of hot and cold water systems, electricity, gas and drainage to low-rise buildings.

The aim of this unit is to give learners the opportunity to develop knowledge of the key personnel involved in the different stages of the design process. Learners will also gain an understanding of how a client’s design needs are influenced by different constraints, the different stages of the RIBA Architect’s Plan of Work and the organisation of design teams to produce design solutions.

The aim of this unit is to enable learners to gain an understanding of the reasons for, and to know the processes involved in the conversion and adaptation of buildings, and to develop skills in the design and evaluation of the conversion and adaptation of buildings.

This unit will enable learners to develop the skills needed to use computer systems for communicating information, understand e-sources of information, and produce word processed documents and spreadsheets to meet the needs of the construction and the built environment sector.
