Internet Dangers
There are many useful ways of using the internet but there are also some dangers...

There is no supervision on the Internet so you should be aware of these dangers and be on your guard against anybody that may try to exploit or hurt you.

Inappropriate material...
  • Pornography
  • Gambling
  • Drugs
Internet content is not censored and you should avoid going to websites with this content.

Ignore all encouragements given.

Pressure websites...
  • Extremist political or religious groups
Do not believe everything you see on the Internet. There is a lot of false information.
Chat rooms and Forums...
  • Predators
  • Cyberbullies
Exercise extreme caution. People may not be who they claim to be. Only use recognised chat rooms and forums.

Always use an alias name and never give out any personal information...and never agree to meet anyone you have only spoken to in a chat room.

If anything at all makes you feel uncomfortable, tell somebody about it - preferably a parent or teacher.

Technology dangers...
  • Hacking - unauthorised access to files stored on a computer.
  • Viruses - small programs that can copy themselves from one computer to another and may also perform some mischief.
  • Spyware - programs that gather information about you and your computing habits.
  • Adware - programs that deliver unwanted advertisements to your computer

Install software that protects your computer from these dangers...

...and make sure the information is kept up-to-date as new viruses are being created every day.
