These sessions are intended to develop your understanding of the practice of managing an academiic research project. These sessions will also provide support and assistance with your major project. The assessed task will see you produce a project proposal for your major project but does not form a part of that unit.

These sessions will introduce you to research methods concepts and techniques. These concepts are common to academic and commercial research projects accross a wide range of disciplines. The aim of imposing this structure is to help bring rigor and authority to the project.
This session will introduce the Project Proposal assessment. You will create a formal project proposal document which will outline the purpose and viability of your major project.
This session will take a closer look at the literature review section of the Project Proposal. This will build through the process of the Major Project to form the literature review section of your final report.
This session introduces the concept of research ethics. It will discuss what comprises research ethics, the need for these and how they may be applied to academic research projects.
This session will recap common development methodologies for computer science research projects. It will then move on review some comoon project planning techniques which will be essential for both the Project Proposal and Interim Viva assessments.
This section will highlight the importance of quality management. It will also outline some of the ways in which quality management should be considered when undertaking your major project.
This session contains materials which will be used to introduce the various components of the Major Project. They will outline what is required at each stage and provide some structural suggestions.
This session will discuss the purpose of reflective writing within an adademic research project. It will progress to define what reflective writing is and examines some models for how this might be approached.
This session discusses the nature of research report abstracts. It covers why they are required and the purposes they fulfil. A checklist of information to include in the abstract is also provided.
